PETROAN Strikes Deal to Distribute Dangote Refinery’s Fuel Nationwide

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has announced a landmark agreement to distribute premium motor spirit (PMS) produced by Dangote Refinery, a move expected to address price disparities at fuel stations across the country.

Confirming the development on Tuesday, PETROAN’s National President, Billy Gillis-Harry, described the deal as a “game-changer” for Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.

“PETROAN has sealed a partnership with Dangote/MRS for greater and more efficient petroleum distribution nationwide,” he said. “With this agreement, Nigerians will now get the best value for money spent on fuel, and the era of price disparities will be a thing of the past. The cost of transportation is also factored into the scheme.”

Gillis-Harry characterised the partnership as a goodwill gesture from Dangote Refinery and PETROAN, urging Nigerians to remain optimistic about improvements in the fuel supply chain.

In a related development, PETROAN has commended the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for issuing gas distribution and importation licences to accredited marketers, including NGML, NIPCO, AXXELA, FALCON, and SNG. The association emphasised that the move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s gas expansion initiative, aimed at ensuring a steady supply of gas to Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.

Meanwhile, PETROAN has inaugurated its Lagos State Executive Council in preparation for upcoming challenges in the sector. According to a statement by PETROAN spokesperson Joseph Obele, the council’s mandate includes tackling fuel adulteration, illegal metering adjustments, extortion of retail outlet owners, and hoarding of petroleum products.

Gillis-Harry also extended congratulations to Akinola Ogunyolemi, who was elected as the new Lagos State Chairman of PETROAN, alongside other key officers. He urged the new leadership to secure a formal audience with the Lagos State Governor, following the association’s practice in other states, to strengthen collaboration on petroleum distribution.

The agreement between PETROAN and Dangote Refinery marks a significant shift in Nigeria’s fuel distribution landscape, as local refining capacity continues to expand, reducing reliance on imports and addressing long-standing inefficiencies in the supply chain.
