Akume: President Tinubu Aware of Hard Times, but Recovery Path is Firm
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, affirmed on Monday that President Bola Tinubu is acutely aware of the economic hardship facing Nigerians. Speaking on behalf of the President at the 70th birthday celebration of Pastor Tunde Bakare, Serving Overseer of Citadel Global Community Church, Akume reassured the nation that Tinubu’s reforms, though challenging, have set Nigeria on the right path.
“President Tinubu acknowledges that times are hard,” Akumestated at the event, held at The Citadel in Lagos. “But at the end of the tunnel, there is always light. Solutions to complex problems cannot be instant, like coffee. But we are on the right track.”
His comments come amid intense public debate over Tinubu’sreform measures, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira, steps the Presidency argues were essential to stabilising the economy.
Through Akume, Tinubu paid tribute to Pastor Bakare, celebrating him as a “beacon of hope and a voice for the voiceless.” “Pastor Bakare’s influence as a spiritual leader, nation-builder, and advocate for truth has left an indelible mark on our society. His dedication to justice, honesty, and fairness has earned him widespread respect,” Tinubu said.
The celebration saw an assembly of dignitaries, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, all extolling Bakare’s impact as both a political and spiritual force in Nigeria.
