Nigerian Government Opens Portal for Petrol-to-CNG Vehicle Conversions
The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched an application portal enabling citizens to convert their vehicles from petrol (Premium Motor Spirit) to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), in an effort to reduce fuel costs and environmental impact.
The initiative, announced by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Wednesday, offers a payment scheme designed to ease the financial burden of the switch. The statement, titled “Payment Plan to Make it Easier to Switch to CNG,” outlines how Nigerians can apply for the conversion online and spread payments across affordable monthly instalments.
Highlighting the accessibility of the scheme, the NOA reassured Nigerians that the process would be smooth and budget-friendly. “With flexible payment plans tailored to fit your budget, transitioning from petrol to CNG has never been easier,” the statement noted. It emphasised that applicants could convert their vehicles immediately and opt for deferred payments at competitive rates.
The application process promises simplicity, with an easy-to-navigate online portal and rapid approval. “You’ll receive support every step of the way to ensure a hassle-free experience,” the NOA assured prospective applicants.
The transition to CNG is being framed as not just a cost-saving measure but also a move towards more sustainable transport. CNG is known for its environmental benefits, reduced running costs, and enhanced engine longevity. The NOA also cited the technology’s proven safety record and reliability as key reasons for encouraging the switch.
Nigerians interested in converting their vehicles to CNG can apply via the government’s dedicated website: gocng.ng.
