Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment to Sustainable Development Goals on 64th Independence Anniversary
As Nigeria marks its 64th year of independence, the Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a critical tool for addressing the nation’s challenges and fostering long-term prosperity.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on SDGs, underscored the importance of sustainable development in tackling issues like poverty, hunger, and inequality. She highlighted the SDGs as a vital framework for building a fairer and more inclusive society.
“The SDGs provide us with a framework to build a more equitable and sustainable society,” Orelope-Adefulire said. “As we celebrate our independence, it is a time to reaffirm our commitment to achieving these goals by 2030, ensuring no Nigerian is left behind.”
Orelope-Adefulire further noted that her office had launched several programmes aimed at improving education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability in collaboration with government ministries, private organisations, and civil society. These efforts, she said, were designed to create meaningful change and contribute to national development.
She called on Nigerians to unite in realising the SDGs, stressing the need for cooperation between government agencies, the private sector, and non-governmental organisations to make the vision a reality.
As Nigeria looks towards its future, the government’s renewed focus on the SDGs signals a clear direction: a commitment to inclusive growth that leaves no citizen behind.
