Nigerian Engineering Bodies Applaud Dangote Refinery’s Commitment to Global Standards
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has received high praise from Nigeria’s foremost engineering bodies for its adherence to world-class technology and rigorous engineering standards in its construction. The commendations were given during a recent visit by the Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAE), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
Professor Rahamon Bello, President of the NAE, represented by the immediate past president, Professor Azikiwe Onwualu, lauded the refinery for its strict compliance with European Union standards across all its engineering facilities. Highlighting the advanced tools and technologies used, Onwualu noted that the refinery embodies engineering excellence on a global scale.
“This refinery stands as a pinnacle of engineering standards worldwide,” Onwualu remarked. “Adhering to such rigorous standards ensures that all processes and final products meet the highest quality expectations. We are impressed with the commitment to excellence and the meticulous attention to quality control observed here.”
COREN President Sadiq Zubair also expressed admiration for the involvement of local experts in key areas of the project, which he said reflects the competence and capabilities of Nigerian engineers. Zubair emphasised the transformative impact the refinery is expected to have on Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, pledging the full support of engineering bodies to ensure its success.
“The Dangote Refinery is more than just a construction project; it represents a national achievement that all Nigerians can take pride in,” Zubair stated.
Margaret Oguntala, President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, echoed these sentiments, describing the refinery as a significant investment equipped with state-of-the-art technology and machinery. She expressed optimism about the refinery’s potential to boost Nigeria’s economic prospects.
“This refinery is a beacon of progress and a harbinger of better days for our nation,” Oguntala declared.
In an update on the refinery’s progress, Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, announced that the facility is on schedule to commence production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by the first week of September 2024.
The commendations from Nigeria’s top engineering bodies highlight the Dangote Refinery’s potential to set new benchmarks in the nation’s industrial sector, fostering pride and optimism among Nigerians for the future of the country’s economic landscape.
