The Nigeria Customs Service, Apapa Area Command, has announced a remarkable revenue generation of N1.23 trillion between January and July 2024. This milestone underscores the command’s efficiency and commitment to surpassing previous records.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the command highlighted that July’s revenue collection alone amounted to N202 billion, the highest monthly collection in the service’s history. Babatunde Olomu, the Customs Area Controller, expressed optimism about the command’s capacity to continue breaking records in the future.
“For the first seven months of 2024, that is January to July this year, the Apapa Area Command generated a total of N1.23 trillion. What has been generated so far for seven months is above the total collected revenue by the command in 2023, which was N1.17 trillion,” Olomu stated.
Olomu attributed this significant achievement to the implementation of the time release study by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi. The study aimed to facilitate trade by reducing delays, thereby boosting revenue collection. The Apapa Area Command’s proactive measures and strategic interventions have clearly paid off, reflecting in these impressive figures.
“I am optimistic about the possibility of beating this record as we look forward to surpassing it in months to come. Worthy of note is the tariff and trade department interventions, which have contributed immensely to the successes achieved thus far,” Olomu added.
He further pledged the command’s continued commitment to aligning with the directives and motivational examples set by the Comptroller-General. This drive, he noted, would ensure that the Apapa Area Command not only maintains but exceeds its current revenue collection standards.
