Nigerian Ports Authority and NLNG Forge Stronger Ties to Boost Exports

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has announced a strategic partnership with Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited to enhance export operations, aligning with the federal government’s push for a more export-driven economy.
The Managing Director of the NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, disclosed the initiative on Tuesday during a meeting with NLNG’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Phillip Mshelbila, at the authority’s headquarters in Marina, Lagos.
Speaking on behalf of NLNG, Dr. Mshelbila expressed appreciation for the NPA’s continued support and emphasised the need for greater synergy as the company expands its liquefied natural gas production capacity. “We are scaling up LNG production to take advantage of increasing global demand, and we look forward to deeper collaboration with the NPA to facilitate exports,” he stated.
Dr. Dantsoho reaffirmed the NPA’s commitment to supporting the federal government’s export agenda, in line with the directives of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola. “NLNG has played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s economic development and export growth. We are determined to strengthen this partnership and create an enabling environment for increased LNG exports,” he said.
The collaboration comes as Nigeria recorded a trade surplus of ₦5.81 trillion ($3.7 billion) in the third quarter of 2024, according to a foreign trade alert from the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG). The bulk of these exports were processed through NPA-managed platforms, underscoring the authority’s central role in the nation’s trade infrastructure.
With global energy markets evolving and demand for LNG rising, the strengthened alliance between the NPA and NLNG is poised to further position Nigeria as a key player in the international energy trade.
