Government Sets Final Deadline for National Housing Programme Payments
The Federal Government has issued a strict 90-day deadline for subscribers of the National Housing Programme (NHP) to complete their payments, with an additional eight-week grace period for those who need more time.
Dr Marcus Ogunbiyi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, made this announcement recently in Abuja, emphasising the urgency of the situation. “The validity period for the completion of all payments was 90 days,” he stated, highlighting the original timeline for subscribers.
To accommodate those facing difficulties, Ogunbiyi noted that an eight-week grace period has been provided, effectively giving subscribers a total of 26 weeks to settle their outstanding payments. However, he warned, “Any subscriber who fails to complete payment within the eight-week grace period will have his offer revoked,” underscoring the consequences of non-compliance.
The first batch of provisional allocations under the NHP was issued in April 2024, following a comprehensive review of the programme’s conditions and procedures. With the new deadline in place, the ministry has urged all subscribers to take advantage of the remaining time to secure their allocations and avoid the risk of forfeiture.
The government’s move aims to ensure the timely delivery of the housing programme, while also reinforcing the commitment of subscribers to their allocated properties.
